I Did It!

I did it! I quit my job! It was a lot tougher than I had thought it would be, but I finally made the decision and it feels right. I'm really excited about being home with Micah and Abby. I'm super excited about doing Preschool with Micah. I've been doing a little of it since I've been off on maternity leave, but starting in January, I will be doing it twice a week. I'll probably work on potty training Micah too. I'm not looking forward to that.

Anyway, it's an exciting new chapter in my life. Being home has been a lot tougher than I imagined, but I know it will pay off in the long run. I'll really miss my co-workers, who have been my friends for the past 10 years, but I know I will still see them and get to do lunch with them every-once-in-awhile.

Merry Christmas!

Abby's Blessing

Abby was blessed yesterday. Heath gave her a wonderful blessing, which she slept right through. It was a beautiful day and we were grateful to have many family members there to share it with us. It was extra special for Heath because it was also his birthday. What a great gift he was given with the opportunity to bless his daughter.

Here we are on our way to church. Abby looked so pretty and Micah was so handsome.

Here is Abby in her blessing gown. She looked so beautiful all dressed in white. Her dress was a combination of satin and organza fabric. It was really long and had three rosettes across the bodice. We accessorized with a bracelet made of pearls and a big organza bow for her head. She looked so beautiful, I couldn't help but shed some tears as I was dressing her.

Isn't she beautiful?

Here is a full length shot. I saw this dress in a store in Richfield and I fell in love with it, so my mom bought it. It was kind of funny though because Abby hadn't even been born yet.

Tagged by Danae

I was tagged by Danae, so here are six facts about me...

1. I love to cook. It's relaxing for me and I feel like I've created a piece of art when it turns out right. Someday, when my children are older, I would really like to go to culinary school or just take some cooking classes.

2. I don't like the light. I know, that sounds strange. most people wake up in the morning and open the blinds. I wake up and make sure they are still closed. I don't really know why I don't like light, I just don't.

3. I don't like buttons. Another strange one. I just don't like it when buttons are used for decoration. If they are used for the purpose of keeping your pants on or your shirt closed, I'm fine with them, but buttons used as the center of a flower or as berries, etc. just isn't cute to me.

4. I love Law & Order. All three of them. I love waking up in the middle of the nite or super early in the morning to feed Abby, because I know I can turn on the tv and one of the Law & Order shows will be on. My favorite is SVU, but I'll seriously watch any one of them.

5. Growing up, I always wanted to be either a Pediatrician or a Journalist. I still really like to write and I keep a journal, but I would like to write a novel one day. I have notes on several ideas and I'm hoping to get it done in the next few years, kind of as a present to myself.

6. I can't stand olives. I hate all olives, especially the green ones. They scare me. I feel like that red thing in the middle stares at me. The black ones look like bugs and taste like I've just licked a nickel.

Update on Abby

Abby is doing great! She is a sweet baby and loves to be cuddled, which is nice because we all love holding her. She is eating really well and weighed 7 lbs. 10 oz. at her two week appointment. I'm sure she is at least 8 lbs. now.

I love this picture of her. I think it shows just how much she has grown. she is staying awake a little more each day. She is quite aware and loves to look around. I love dressing her up and putting cute little bows on her head. She has grown enough now that they actually stay on. In this picture, she has on the cutest little flowered jump suit and pink pants. You can't see it in the picture, but her pants actually have little ties on the bottom. They are the cutest things I have ever seen. I got them at Gymboree and they were definitely worth the money.

This is what Abby was wearing today. It is a cute little pink gown with bears around the bottom of it. The cutest part though is the little hat. Doesn't she just look like a little Holly Hobby doll?

Halloween

Micah was a boxer for Halloween. The day beore Halloween, he got to go to our ward Halloween Carnival. The people in costumes scared him though and he didn't end up doing the Trunk-or-treat. He was fine by the next day and before he went out Trick-or-treating for the nite, he got to go to Heath's bank. They do a thing each year where the children of the employee's can trick-or-treat from office to office. After getting a lot of candy from the bank, Heath took Micah around our neighborhood where he got even more candy. Let's just say that he was on a sugar high for a couple of days.

This is the only picture I was able to get of Abby. I'm having some problems with the timing on my camera and it seemed like she put her hand in her face or something every time I tried to snap her picture. Anyway, she was pumpkin for Halloween. Her costume was an orange onesie with a pumpkin face on it. She also had a little hat that said, "Little Pumpkin" on it. It was very cute. Here is a picture of daddy enjoying his "Little Pumpkin."

Micah

Life with two children has been an adjustment. I think it is especially so for Micah. I have heard that sometimes when a new child is brought into the home, the other child will regress. We haven't really noticed that with Micah. He did however, jump at the chance to get Abby's pacifier into his mouth the other day. It was so funny, I didn't have the heart to take it from him (until after I got the picture, of course).

Micah is a funny kid. He is constantly doing things that crack us up. The other nite, he was taking a bath and kept putting the bubbles on his face. That was funny in itself, but then he did it again and said, "Ho ho ho!" I don't remember the last time I have laughed so hard.

Micah likes to play hide and seek, but he hasn't quite got the idea that when you hide, you want to go somewhere that can't be seen. He loves to hide, but he also likes to make sure you know right where he is. This has become his favorite hiding spot.

Baby Abby

Introducing the newest member of the Garner family... Abigail Valerie Garner was born on October 1, 2007 @ 6:51 a.m. She weighed 6 pounds 14 ounces and was 19 inches long. She has beautiful olive colored skin and just a little bit of black peach fuzz for hair. She is very petite and is the prettiest little girl we have ever seen. :)

Well, here is the story... On Sunday, September 30th, I woke up with feet that were so swollen it hurt to walk. I took it easy most of the day. I went to bed that night feeling much better, but at 1;30 a.m., I woke up, rolled over and felt my water break. I jumped out of bed and ran into the bathroom. I yelled for Heath who immediately jumped out of bed. We then called Beau and asked him to come over and stay with Micah. As soon as Beau arrived, we got in the car and drove to the hospital. Once we were there, the nurses verified that my water had indeed broke and called my doctor (Dr. Scott Rees). I then had an epidural and tried to get some sleep, but I was so uncomfortable it was impossible. I just layed in the bed and watched the time tick away. Finally, at 6:30 a.m. the nurses took me to the OR and Dr. Rees and Dr. Broberg did the c-section. Little Abby was officially born at 6:51 a.m.

Once she was born and we were all settled into our recovery room, my parents brought Micah to the hospital to see his new little sister. He was fascinated with her and immediately wanted to give her a kiss. We visited with Micah and my parents for while and then they all left to go to Richfield where Micah would stay until it was time for me to be released. while in the hospital, Heath took great care of us. He visited everyday after work and stayed until late each nite. e had many visitors which really made the time pas quickly. Abby and I stayed in the hospital until Thursday night (October 4th), but it was so nice to come home. We are now all settled in and adjusting to our new routine.

Micah loves being a big brother. He is a great helper too. He loves to get the wipes and pick out a diaper when Abby needs to be changed. He loves to give her kisses, hold her hands, and hold her (with mom and dad's help of course). We all love Abby so much and are grateful to have her in our family.

Update

Hi all! Sorry I haven't updated our blog for awhile. I keep getting emails from family and friends asking how we are and why I haven't posted. We are doing really well. Our baby is due in 13 days, so we have been trying to get things ready for her arrival. My mom and Beau came up this week and helped me get some things put together for the baby's room. They also helped me finish Micah's room, which turned out really well. I am pleased. Micah seems to like it too.

Speaking of Micah, he still loves his big boy bed. He has fallen out of it a couple of times though. The falls haven't hurt him or even woken him up. He is also learning some Primary songs and loves to sing them, especially if they have actions with them. Last nite, he put on a little show for Heath and performed "Book of Mormon Stories" and "Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree." It's so cute to see him learning and enjoying it at the same time.

Micah is excited about having a baby sister, but he is not sure that he wants to share his toys with her. I went through his toy box and took out a bunch of things that were more suitable for a baby. These were toys that Micah had not played with in quite some time. I put these toys in a toy box in the baby's room. Well, Micah was not happy about this and since then, has tried several times to take the toys back. I have caught him on several occassions, sneaking into the baby's room and carrying her toys back into his room.

Heath is doing well, although he hasn't been able to golf as much as he would probably like. He's been really good to do a lot of things with Micah, so I don't have to lift him or chase him around when I'm not feeling well. It's not that I don't feel well, I'm just huge, tired, and quite awkward right now.

I'm good, but more than ready to have this baby. We're all getting excited to welcome Abby into the family. Oh yeah, for those of you that don't know, we are naming her, "Abigail Valerie Garner." We will call her Abby. She is scheduled to be born via c-section on October 9th, 2007.

I guess that's it for now. Hopefully soon, we will have some cute pics of our brand new baby girl to post.

Funny Story

Last Friday, I was leaving my office and stopped to fix my shoe. I put my foot up on a step and leaned over to fix the strap on my shoe, when this little boy, who was probably 4 or 5-years old, walked up to me and said, "What happened to you?" I thought he was referring to my shoe, but then he pointed to my belly. I was kind of taken back because I thought a 5-year-old would know what a pregnant woman looked like. I just kind of laughed and said, "Well, that's something your mom will have to talk to you about." Just then, the little boy's mom walked out of the DMV and said, "Oh no! I am so sorry!" I just laughed and said, "No worries, but I figured that you would want to be the one to answer his question." I laughed about that for the rest of the day. :)

Big Boy Bed

Hi all! Last weekend, we transitioned Micah to a full-size bed. I was really nervous about it and afraid he would fall out, but he did GREAT!!!! He actually loved it. Everynite since, he has climbed right in and said, "Big boy bed." He seems very proud of himself that he is now in a regular bed. The only funny thing is that he won't stay underneath the covers, so every morning when I go in to wake him up, he is laying sideways, up against the headboard, and the covers aren't even close to covering him. He is scrunched up like a little stink bug. It's actually really cute and reminds me that even though he is in a "big boy bed", he is still our baby. :)

Finally...pictures!

Thanks to Beau, I'm finally able to post some pictures. I think what I'll do is just post some pics and then write captions of what is happening in the picture. Anyway, hope you enjoy the pics!

Our Litte Conductor

Hi all! Sorry I haven't posted any pictures lately. Our house is still in chaos, and I can't find the data cord for the camera. I'll continue to look and hopefully, get some new photos on here soon.

Anyway, all is good at the Garner home. Heath has been busy putting up the blinds in the basement. Thanks to Beau for staying up until 2:00 a.m. helping Heath. The blinds look really nice and make the basement even more cool. I can't wait until we get things settled down there so we can spend more time there.

Micah is really into trains right now. Yesterday morning, we were trying to get him ready to go to the babysitter and he was being a real bear. I tried everything with him. I said to him, "Micah, let's get dressed so you can go play with your friends." He said, "No friends!" I then said, "Do you want to go play with Chase and his trains?" Immediately, his whole demeanor changed. He got a big smile on his face and immediately laid down and let me dress him. As soon as his clothes were on, he was wanting to climb off the bed and leave. He kept saying, "Trains. Choo Choo!" Then, as he and Heath were leaving, he ran to his room, grabbed his little "Thomas the Tank" train and then went out the door. This morning, we dressed him in his new little black denim short overalls. When he picked up his train, he looked just like a little conductor.

Last nite, Micah got to go to Scouts with daddy. They were having an activity at a local park, so Heath thought Micah would enjoy it. It worked out great for me, because I had an appointment and would have had to get a babysitter otherwise. Anyway, it sounds like Micah had a great time. Heath said that Micah made friends with a little dog that was there with a family. The dog would bark at Micah and Micah would just laugh. He's just like his daddy and has a love of dogs.

I guess that's about it for now. We hope all is well with everyone and that we get to see you soon!

So much has been going on, I haven't had time to update the blog. Hopefully, I will be able to download some pictures tonite. Anyway, the basement is finished! YEAH!!! The bathroom is my favorite room. It turned out way better than I imagined. I'll have to take a picture tonite and get it on here soon. Our couches were delivered on Saturday. Oh yeah, get this. The couches were 3 weeks late, so the company agreed to waive the $75 delivery fee. When they got to our home on Saturday, the guy tells me that the $75 was a "curb side drop-off" and if we wanted them to actually bring the couches in the house, it would cost another $25. Heath wasn't home and I didn't want the couches sitting out on the curb all day, so I told them to go ahead and bring the couches inside. Well, the two delivery guys weren't even strong enough to bring the couches in on their own, so my brother, Beau had to help. Not that he minded helping, but the principle of the matter just didn't seem right. They wanted to charge an extra $25 to bring the couches inside and they couldn't even do the job themselves. Ridiculous!

We had a really great week last week. First of all, we spent the 4th of July in Annabella with my parents. Micah had an absolute blast playing on some slides at the park. He was sweating like a pig and his face was bright red, but he did not want to get off. He even made a friend while he was playing. I don't know the kid's name, or where his parents were, but he and Micah sure played well together. So, in all the pictures I took, there is some random little boy in them.

Also, we had Heath's parents, his brother, Ian, and some of his relatives from Missouri come for the weekend. We had a BBQ on Friday nite and then had a big breakfast Saturday morning. Jean Ann, Micah, and I went shopping later in the day, while Heath, his dad, and brother went golfing. We finished the nite off with dinner at "GoodWood BBQ".

Sunday was an interesting day too. The power in our entire neighborhood went off Sunday morning, so church was conducted in the dark. Half way through Primary, the Bishopric decided to cancel the rest of church because the building was getting so hot. When I went to pick up Micah from the nursery, he didn't want to go because he hadn't had his snack yet. He was sitting at the table with a little friend and refused to leave. He knew the routine and knew that nursery should not be over yet. I finally had to physically remove him from the table.

Anyway, what a busy week we had, but such a fun one. It's always fun to spend time with family. Heath and I have commented several times that we are lucky because we both have really good ones. :)

Family Update

I got a ton of emails from family and friends that we haven't seen or talked to in years. I guess that's really the purpose of a blog- to keep people updated and to bring people together. Anyway, I was asked to post an update on our family and to let everyone know a little bit more about us and what's been happening in our lives over the past few years.

Well, the biggest thing to happen to us in the past few years is the birth of our first child, Micah Heath Garner. He was born on April 15, 2005. He is 2-years-old now and is a typical two-year-old. He loves to play and is very social. We loves kids and it doesn't matter if they are one or five, he will run right up to them and start playing. He loves to play outside, especially if he can run, swim in his pool, ride his bike, or run through the sprinklers. He has a Disney book that he absolutely loves to look at and he points something out on just about every page.

Micah is a very sweet little boy. Last Friday, we went to a party at our friend's house. They had a giant parachute and were playing a game where some people get underneath the parachute while others stand around the edges and hold onto the parachute. The people underneath are called, "Sharks" and try to pull the other people underneath with them. Heath was holding onto the edge of the parachute and one of the sharks was trying to pull him under. Micah saw this and immediately got a concerned look on his face. He ran over to me and started pointing at Heath and yelling, "Daddy! Daddy!" Everyone at the party thought it was so cute because Micah thought his daddy was being hurt. He was coming to mommy to get help.

Also, this morning as I was leaning over the toilet going through my morning sickness routine, Micah walked over to me, started rubbing my leg, and said, "Okay, mommy? Okay?" He gets really concerned about the people he loves.

Our second child is due on October 15th, but if all goes accordingly, she will be born on October 9th. She will be born with a scheduled c-setion, so that's how we know the exact date. It's kind of fun to know that so we can plan things out. Those of you that know me well, know that I'm a huge planner. :)

Heath has been working as a Compliance Auditor for the Bank of American Fork for four years now. It's a challenging job and you wouldn't believe the manual of regulations he has to know. I think it probably weighs 20 pounds. As a little perk, yesterday, his boss sent Heath and the other Auditors to a motivational speech given by Mark Eaton. Heath got to meet Mark Eaton and spent some time talking with him. Heath was really impressed with Mr. Eaton and came away feeling quite motivated. :)

Heath also runs his own Accounting/Bookkeeping business. He also serves as a Deacon's/Scouts leader in our ward, so he's always doing something fun with the boys. But, with everything he's involved in, he is still able to find time to golf. :) You can find him at Hobble Creek several times a week.

I am still working for the State Health Department as a Child Care Licensing Specialist. Basically, I'm a health inspector for child care facilities. It's an interesting job and I do enjoy it. I also teach the 5/6 year old children in Primary. I have 11 kids in the class and they are a handful. My favorite time though, is my time at home with Micah and Heath.

I got a lot of questions about our basement too, so here is a quick update. When it is finished, it will be 2 bedrooms, a family room, laundry room, and a bathroom. One of the bedrooms will become Heath's office though.

Upstairs, the only remodeling we did was to replace the carpet. As soon as the basement is finished, we will move Heath's office down there and then move Micah's room. Micah's current room is quite small, so we decided that it would be better to move him and then use his current room as the nursery for the new baby. As soon as we get Micah's room moved, we will be transitioning him to a regular bed, so wish us luck with that. And, as soon as we have that done and are in a good routine, we will start potty training him. I really want to have that done by the time the new baby is born.

Anyway, I hope that answers some questions. Please email anytime because we love hearing from all of you!

Micah's 2nd Birthday

Micah turned 2 in April, so I thought I would post some pics from his party. We had a lot of fun that day. Just about everyone from both sides of the family was able to come, and we really appreciated that. Micah loved the attention and seemed to understand that all the fuss was over him. Enjoy!

Our First Post

Hi all! My sister-in-law gave me the idea to start a blog. I thought it was a great idea, so I decided to join in the fun and start one for my family. So, here it is- The Garner's first post!

Things are going well for us. The basement is really close to being done. The bathroom, plumbing, and finish electrical are all that is left. We're really excited about having it done. We especially can't wait to start spending some time down there because it stays really cool.

Micah is doing GREAT!!! He was sick yesterday and had to be picked up from daycare because he was throwing up. When we got home, he just wanted to sleep. He took a 4-hour nap. It made me nervous that he was sleeping so long, so I checked on him about a thousand times, but each time he was snoring away. When he woke up, he was really hungry. Heath had bought Micah one of his favorite dishes- Fried Rice from Great China. He ate just about all of it.

Micah loves the warm weather and really likes to swim in his little pool. He also loves to play in the sprinklers. His language development seems to be getting better every day. His favorite word right now is, "No!" He especially likes to wave his little finger at me and say, "No mommy!"

Heath is doing well and is still working at the Bank. He also started his own Accounting/Bookkeeping business and is doing really well with that. He's accepting clients, so if you know of anyone who might need some Accounting/Bookkeeping work, please refer him. :)

I am doing well too. The pregnancy is coming along well. I am 24 weeks along. For those of you that don't know, we found out that the baby is a girl. We're really excited about that. She will be named, "Valerie." Her middle name will either be "J" or "Ann", we haven't decided for sure yet. She is due in early October, and we can't wait to meet her!
